Localize GeoMedia Smart Client (How To)

This chapter describes how to localize GeoMedia Smart Client.


Blue.pngOnly partners are allowed to register at the Smart Client Language Administrator.


The GeoMedia Smart Client ecosystem offers you a Web-based solution to do the localization of the product. You can create or change your own localization independently of the product release cycles, and you can easily integrate them to your local Smart Client installation.


Create an account

To protected the localization workflow against unauthorized access, you have to create a user account:

  • Open the register form on the bottom left of the login screen.
  • Type in your account information and save it.

Intergraph will check the account information provided by you, and an email will notify you as soon as your account is ready to use.

Localize the product

  • Browse to http://smartclient.intergraph.at/i18n.
  • Log in with your username and password.
  • To start the localization, click Localize Product and choose GMSC on the next page.
  • Choose the language you want to localize (as default, only one language is available).
  • Choose Edit entries.
  • You will then see following form:

Missing entries: Contains all entries which are not localized yet.
Modified entries: Contains all entries which are modified in the software since the last localization.
Existing entries: Contains all localized entries.
Deprecated entries: Contains all entries they are deprecated in the current software version.
  • All of these tabs contain a box called Component, which is used to select a group (for example, a plugin like GPS) of entries.
  • If you select one component, you get a list of items to localize, as shown below:

  • To edit an entry, click on the edit button on the right side of the table, and you will see a form like the one shown below. Fill in the Localized value column and save it.

  • Repeat the last two steps until all items are localized.
  • Finally, to create the language pack, go to Localization > Localize Product > GMSC, select the language, and start the creation with Generate new language pack. The download of the language pack will start automatically, and you can save it to your local disk.

Download the language pack and integrate it in the local GeoMedia Smart Client installation

  • Browse to http://smartclient.intergraph.at/i18n.
  • Log in with your username and password.
  • Select Download LanguagePack and choose GMSC.
  • Select the language you want to download. The download will start automatically, and you can save it to your local disk.
  • Extract the files from the ZIP archive.


Blue.pngIf your language is not part of the list, look to the last step in the previous chapter.


  • Open the explorer and browse to ..\GeoMedia SmartClient\Program\jars\resources. Create a folder named resources if it does not exist.
  • Copy the extracted files to this resource folder.
  • If there are already existing resource files for your language, remove them; otherwise, Smart Client will not be able to start.
  • Finally, the new language pack is applied, and you can use it with the next client start (as long as the administrator has applied the language to the user).

Localisation of form components

Please see the client side localisation page for instructions on how to localise the message of certain workflow form components (e.g. previous/next buttons in grid, error messages for file picker etc.)
