The Search with selection panel allows you to conduct queries based on a spatial map selection.
The conduction of a map selection based on a query comprises the following steps:
1. Set the corresponding feature class to active.
The prerequisite for conducting queries is that the feature class you want to query is set to active. To set a feature class to active, go to the Legend panel and then right click on the corresponding feature class and then click Set active.
2. Select query settings.
In the Settings panel, you can specify to query relevant settings:
The quick pick check box is relevant for the subsequent feature selection. When you select features with the Selection tools, the feature class selection window will open, which contains a list of the adjacent feature classes and where you have to pick the correct one.
For more details on quick pick, see below, Feature Selection Tools.
3. Select the designated features on the map.
Select the features you want to query by either selecting them individually with the mouse by clicking on the respective feature or by selecting a set of features with the Selection tools located on the bottom of the query panel. The Selection Tools are described in detail below in Feature Selection Tools.
The selected features are highlighted in red on the map. Because the fillcolor of the feature is blue, the selected ones are showing up in purple.
4. Execute the query and results.
After you have selected the appropriate features, you can execute the query. Hence click on . If you had checked the before you selected the feature, you can skip this step because the query will be executed right after your selection.
Results of the query can be observed in the corresponding data window and in the map:
The queried objects are highlighted on the map (here in blue color). The attributive data is displayed in a data window (tab) located beneath the map window. If a data window already existed for that query type, the data result is either displayed in a new data window or appended to the existing one, depending what you specified in the Settings panel.
If two or more data windows of the same query type had been opened and the New datagrid check box had been left unchecked () before the query was executed, the data window selection window will open, where you can specify to which data window you want add the data result:
Select the appropriate data window in the list and then click OK.
